LISCIRC Meets with Congressman Peter King

On January 6, LISCIRC executive committee members met with U.S.Representative Peter King, a member of the Testaverde Fund Advisory Board.  Attending were Anthony Testaverde, Ron Quartararo, Joe Petrella and Joe Testaverde, assistant director.  A variety of topics were discussed, including recent initiatives by the states of California and New Jersey to fund stem cell research.  The Congressman expressed his interest in working with LISCIRC to explore non-embryonic research initiatives that could garner broad appeal in Congresss.

LISCIRC has also reached out to NY State legislators in the senate and assembly to discuss state funded initiatives.  In addition to the benefits to SCI victims, without such funding, there is a fear that California's lucrative funding initiative will create a "brain drain" to the west coast.  A letter has also been sent to the president of SUNY to propose a strategy meeting.
