REP. KING TO INTRODUCE TESTAVERDE
ADULT STEM CCELL RESEARCH LEGISLATION

Congressman Peter T. King (R-NY) will introduce legislation in the House of Representatives today which will direct the National Institutes of Health to establish five centers for excellence throughout the country which will focus on curing disease through adult stem cell research.

The legislation entitled the Joe Testaverde Adult Stem Cell Research Act of 2005 is named after Joe Testaverde a Long Island resident who was paralyzed in a swimming pool accident in 2000.

In announcing this legislation Congressman King said: “Adult stem cell research has the potential to offer a non-controversial alternative to treating individuals suffering from numerous diseases and conditions. The creation of Adult Stem Cell Research Centers of Excellence will spearhead a new initiative in which scientists who wish to conduct stem cell research on adult cells are given the resources and support they need.”

Congressman King made his announcement at the annual golf tournament at the Woodmere Country Club sponsored by the Testaverde Fund for Spinal Cord Injury.
